Researchers find a new technique to undergo safe bypass surgery which reduces injury to aorta which reduces the risk of developing cognitive loss
Professor John W. Hammon and his colleagues from Wake Forest University School of Medicine has reported in the Journal Thoracic and Cardiovascular that reducing injury to the aorta which may occur due to bypass surgery significantly reduces the development of complications to the heart which may lead to cognitive loss and the researchers feel by following a technique which reduces injury to the aorta reduces development of cognitive defects.
The researchers have developed a different method by which they could reduce injury to aorta by using the heart-lung machine along with heart lung machine which reduced the movement of aorta during surgery by using a single clamp that produced less injury to aorta than the traditional conventional method. The researchers found a significant reduction of injury to aorta in these patients using the new technique compared to the conventional surgical procedure.
