A prototype intelligent T-shirt capable of measuring temperature, heart rate and other body functions has been developed by Scientists at la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
This was developed as part of a project, named LOBIN, intended to keep a check on patients in the hospital with the help of a wireless network.
Presently, the design is such that the localization device is distinct from the T-shirt and needs to be carried in the pocket.
The T-shirt is water-proof and can be washed. It comes with electrodes which can detect bioelectric power.
An electrocardiogram of the patient can also be taken. It also comes with a thermometer, and an accelerometer, which helps measure the patient’s temperature, his position and his level of physical activity.
