Geneva - The new interim head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Anders Nordstrom, addressing the press for the first time since assuming office , confirmed that Dr Anders Nordstrom. He also emphasized the need for additional financial resources and the support from the people to continue the fight against HIV/Aids, malaria and polio.
He reiterated that he would continue the work of his predecessor Dr Lee Jong-wook, who had passed away earlier in the week. Talking of Lee's important project, of enabling three million people suffering with HIV/Aids in the poorer countries, with life-extending antiretroviral treatment, Nordstrom said 'There is now a major political commitment to equitable access to drugs for people. Three years back the difference was amazing. Everyone realises now the importance of getting drugs to people in poorer countries.'
