Thailand will host a week-long meeting on the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Food for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) , becoming the first Asian host for the meeting focusing on international food standards to benefit consumers, a senior Thai official said.
Dr. Charal Trinvuthipong, advisor to Thailand's Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister said some 350 delegates from 169 member countries of Codex would participate in the meeting in the country's northern resort of Chiang Mai from October 28-November 3.Major issues to be discussed at the meeting include laying out conditions of food fibre and methodologies to find the volume of fibre in the food, according to Dr. Charal, adding that it would benefit Thailand because the country exports a large volume of vegetable and fruit drinks.
Other significant issues to be discussed are reviewing quality standards for infant food and analysis of possible risks from food containing either excessive vitamins, or their lack.
