Dr.N.Pradhan, director of National institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences has sacked the registrar and has appointed another professor as deputy director.
National institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) director Dr. N. Pradhan has issued an official memorandum to Dr. N.Ravi, the registrar of the institute. He has sacked the registrar and has appointed another person from the department of social work as deputy director till next order is issued. However a senior faculty of the institution said that "Only the appointing authority has the powers to remove, not the director. A director can remove a ward boy or a clerk, not the registrar of the institution. This is nothing but another arbitrary action on his (director's) part,"
Dr Pradhan said, "After the institute gained the status of INI (Institute of National Importance), the post of the registrar was replaced by deputy director (administration) which has to be ideally given to an IAS officer. But Dr Ravi continued to hold the post and extended it even after his tenure got over in May, 2015. As per the rules, I have handed over the responsibility to another doctor based on the seniority until someone else is appointed. There is nothing wrong in what I have done and I will stick by my decision."
Dr.Ravi reacted to this, saying, "A registrar has no tenure and I was appointed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and only they shall take the rightful decision."
Dr.pradhan has terminated services of 13 staffs and has replaced three HoD’s prior to this incident. The on-going controversies has affected the reputation of the campus, said Dr Narayana Reddy, former director of NIMHANS.
