Quadruplets Ellie, Bethany, Millie and Lucy, who were born at 28 weeks last year are celebrating their first birthday. Mother Gillian Holden feared they would never see this day after her babies were born via an emergency C-section as she was diagnosed with preeclampsia. The latter is a condition in which the blood pressure becomes dangerously high and could prove fatal for both the mother and the baby.
"The first birthday feels like such a big deal because of how touch-and-go it’s been for the first part of their lives," a happy Mrs Holden told the Daily Mail. “The last six months having them all home has just flown by."
Bethany, Lucy and Millie were born in that order when doctors decided to perform a C-section to save lives. Ellie though, was diagnosed with chronic lung disease and had to receive intensive care for 6 months, after which she was reunited with her family.
Gillian’s partner Marc has quit his job as an interior decorator to help care for the babies. “It’s huge for us to be celebrating their first birthday after everything we’ve been through," he said.
