Dog lovers in Jaipur turned Samaritans on Sunday when they took out a rally with their pets to create mass awareness about swine flu.
Despite the chilly weather, around 200 dog lovers along with their canines turned up to participate in the awareness rally. Many dogs in the rally had their snouts covered by masks and their masters and owners were holding banners highlighting the message to be on guard against the pandemic disease.
"We are trying to tell what exactly swine flu is all about and how it can be prevented. And this is a very very unique and novel method of going about it, walking in the city of Jaipur and telling the people and attracting their attention on how to prevent swine flu. And dog lovers are putting their might into it," said P K Tiwari, a dog lover and participant in the Swine Flu Awareness rally.
Participants said that through their pets they wished to enlighten commoners.
"Our aim is to spread awareness among people about swine flu with the help of dogs. What better medium we can have but a speechless animal trying to spread the message," said Geeta Parikh, another dog lover and participant in the rally.
More than 800 persons have succumbed to this deadly virus in India and around 24,500 people have tested positive for the H1N1 virus.
