JIPMER Docs In 48-Hour Strike

a 2-day long strike to protest against the government's decision to increase the quota for OBCs in higher educational institutes.

About 300 resident doctors of JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical College and Research) in Pondicherry have gone on a 2-day long strike to protest against the government's decision to increase the quota for OBCs in higher educational institutes.

A spokesman of the Association of Resident Doctors said that they had submitted a memo to the government to have a more practical look at the whole issue, which is threatening to snowball into a crisis. The OPD was thrown off-balance due to the strike, but emergency cases were still attended by the doctors. Patients who came for routine check-up were asked to return Thursday.

Normal function was reported from the emergency and casualty wings and also the Intensive Care unit. The students and residents expressed solidarity with the patients by donating blood to the hospital's Blood Bank.

They were of the opinion that the government was acting very hastily on the issue.
