Keep Watch for Resistance to HIV/AIDS Treatments
Government officials have warned people and the various groups involved in anti HIV/AIDS program to keep a close watch on emergence of resistance to the existing treatment regimen. Developing drug resistance can pose a serious challenge in curbing this disease.
Too many things are being done related to HIV/AIDS treatment. The government is being cautious in the case of HIV as it does not to repeat anything similar to what happened with malaria or tuberculosis complications. Secretary of Department of Health Research, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, V.M.Katoch said, "The HIV/AIDS control program has shown tremendous success in India. But at the same time, it is important to have close monitoring on the treatment and the emergence of resistance. It can pose a serious challenge."

Similarly Seth Berkley of US-based International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) also said that the world needs a prevention revolution to control the spread of HIV/AIDS. CEO of Yashraj Biotechnology, Chander Puri said, "The consistent viral variation, emerging new infections, different immunological responses in host and resistance to therapies are still recognized as major impediments in developing effective therapeutic drugs and preventive tools for HIV/AIDS."
