Did you know that apart from the aesthetics of a lovely smile when they're older, sending your child to the dentist is also important for their general health? You're not only teaching children how to clean their teeth properly, but you're also lowering their risks of developing tooth decay and other oral health issues.
With the same motive of spreading healthier smiles among children, this Children’s Dental Health Month, Medindia’s team of doctors, Dr. Krishanga Srivastava, Dr. Hena Mariam, and Dr. Pavithra S., conducted a dental screening and awareness camp on February 22, 2023, at Jaigopal Garodia Vivekananda Vidyalaya.

The camp was conducted for the middle school, and nearly 435 students were screened for dental problems, with a general screening for bedwetting also conducted using a questionnaire-based screening and a general briefing on bedwetting by the MOHAN Foundation volunteers, Ms. Yamini and Ms. Pratyusha.

The camp began with a screening and dental awareness discussion, which educated kids about the dental ailments they have as well as preventative measures that they can follow. The pupils were also advised on the eating habits and food choices that contribute to dental decay. The pupils had numerous opportunities to interact with the experts and ask questions about oral problems and bedwetting.

After the dental exam, each kid received a report summarizing the discovered condition and the recommended dental treatment plan, along with a referral educational video on "The right way to brush and floss."

Sr. Principal and Principal of Jaigopal Garodia Vivekananda Vidyalaya praised the team of dental doctors, volunteers, and management of Medindia for their moral and unselfish commitment to the school.

Why is Children's Oral Health so Important?

Good dental hygiene is important not just for adults but also for youngsters. Some parents are unsure how to care for their child's teeth. Kids understand the need for brushing, yet many are unsure when to begin. Instilling healthy oral habits at an early age is beneficial. Excellent dental habits established at a young age lay the groundwork for a healthy mouth, and the effects can last a lifetime.

Early Childhood Dental Care

The first set of teeth in a child does not develop until the youngster is about six months old, and they continue to erupt until the child is a young adult. Nonetheless, sufficient dental care is required both before and during this time.

Cleaning their teeth with a warm washcloth or bib is an excellent way to remove sugar and residue from their tongue and gums. This is significant because it helps prevent the start of early childhood tooth decay.

Infection and damage to their first set of teeth may occur if they do not practice excellent oral hygiene and if preventive measures are not taken. Their mature teeth beneath them may potentially be harmed.

Bed-wetting can be quite upsetting for families. It is crucial to remember, however, that bed-wetting is usually never the child's fault; it is not something they do on purpose or because they are lazy.
