A ban has been imposed on the sales pan masala and tobacco products near hospitals and educational institutions by the Kerala State Government in India. The products can be sold only from beyond 500 meters from such institutions, according to the new rules. A law is also planned to be enacted to ensure that this is strictly adhered to.
The youth in the state are increasingly taking to the use of the product due its low price and easy availability. Children are also likely to fall prey to this habit which inflicts enormous damage to the health. The Health Department of the state will also seek the help of voluntary organizations to ensure the effectiveness of the new rules.
