The Kerala High Court has reinforced the Medical Council of India's decision to allot medical seats to candidates who secure 50% marks in qualifying exams.

The students were admitted in various colleges run by Christian and Muslim managements in 2007-08. The MCI ordered them to discontinue their studies after which they approached the Supreme Court from where they were directed to approach the High Court.
The court found that the tenet of scoring 50% marks in English and a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology was enshrined in a central statue and hence dismissed their petition.
