Kid Dies After Docs Fail to Diagnose Appendicitis

In a tragic incident, a six-year-old boy in Britain died due to a burst appendix after a number of doctors failed to diagnose the condition.

Salisbury resident, Jesse Jones, was admitted to the Southampton General Hospital back in December last year and met more than five doctors, all of whom failed to identify his problem.

Jesse’s mother, Sarah initially contacted two GPs, both of whom said that her son was suffering from a stomach bug and prescribed over-the-counter medicine and plenty of liquids. When the condition failed to alleviate, she then contacted an out-of-hours service where a nurse told her to give him liquid paracetemol.

Dr Bernadette Thorne was the next to be consulted and he immediately rushed Jesse to the Salisbury District Hospital on December 3. However he was diagnosed with constipation and was sent home with a laxative and when his condition worsened the next day, he was rushed to the Southampton General Hospital where he died after suffering from a cardiac arrest.

Speaking at her son’s inquest, Sarah Jones said “I am left wondering whether Jesse’s death could have been prevented if more medical attention could have been taken on one of the previous occasions.”
