Kidney Patients Benefiting from Using Technology in Scotland

Patients suffering from kidney diseases and particularly those undergoing dialysis are benefiting from using technology in Scotland.

Patients suffering from kidney diseases and particularly those undergoing dialysis are benefiting from using technology in Scotland.

Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon got a firsthand view of the Renal PatientView system on a visit to the renal unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and said the system was proving extremely useful.

"Where patients are involved in the treatment and management of their disease, the outcome is often better for all concerned," she added. "Renal PatientView is an example of how modern technology can help get patients more involved and the positive reaction from patients clearly demonstrates that this has been a welcome move."

The Renal PatientView website allows patients to have a say in their own care by enabling access to blood tests and other information in a secure manner. The Renal PatientView initiative was initially rolled out in Edinburgh in 2005 and has now been extended to renal units in Dundee, Monklands, Kilmarnock and Dumfries.
