Knee Injuries to be Treated Online

Health experts at Lothians has created a new website that advises about knee injuries without patients needing to visit a doctor nor even go to hospital

Health experts at Lothians has created a new website that advises about knee injuries without patients needing to visit a doctor nor even go to hospital.

A landmark in today’s world hooked onto the Internet, the Physiotherapy Advice website offers immediate expert advice on knee injuries to anyone, at any place in the world, giving them a chance to safely manage their symptoms before meeting a doctor.

According to their symptoms patients must fill a questionnaire upon which they will receive tailored advice about the most effective way to manage their problem.

This could be done by exercise sheets, with colour photographs and video clips of exercises, all of which have been reviewed by chartered physiotherapists in NHS Lothian. The project is planned to initially run for a year.

Wendy Johnson, who came up with the website idea together with fellow physiotherapist Angela Lindsay, said: ‘It started off as a small idea and just evolved from there.’

The website has received rave reviews and benefited many. As one patient said, ‘Being able to access the information when it suits me has made a big difference, especially as I'm in the middle of study leave for my exams and I can log on anywhere using my laptop.’
