The Government of Korea will soon enforce legal regulations against any sort of discrimination against people with AIDS and HIV. The Health and Welfare Ministry is due to submit a bill that will seek to shut out any prejudiced treatment of AIDS and HIV patients, in the workplace. This bill will ensure equal rights to them in all areas -promotion, leave of absence and the like.
Penalties for discrimination will include a year’s imprisonment or a fine equivalent to US$3,000. This is certainly some reprieve as there has been no law so far in Korea that seeks to remedy discrimination, more so in a place where the numbers of HIV/AIDS cases has shown a steady increase.
