“The bacterial toxin responsible for staphylococcus infections can kill infected patients in 72 hours” researchers from Texas say. This toxin goes by the name of PVL or otherwise called Panton Valentine Leukocidin has the potency to bring about pneumonia and harm the healthy tissue as well.

Staphylococcu aureus is the causative agent of many nosocomial infections. This is normally found in the skin or nose of many people. S.aureus also causes minor skin infections, boils, pimples and on the major side meningitis, endocarditis and pneumonia.

Generally this infection is treated with methicillin group of antibiotics. But it can also be combined with doxycycline and vancomycin in case of a resistant strain.

When the bacteria are resistant to methicillin, it proves lethal with the damaged lung tissue and immune system.

As a part of defense mechanism, washing hands and following a stringent hygiene programme would come in handy to combat this bacterial attack.
