Teenage girls who suffer from depression are plagued by chronic pain, reveals study. Researchers studied the kind of physical pain that troubles adolescents with different mental health problems and has alerted medical doctors and psychologists to be aware of the chronic pain that can plague young people with mental health woes.
According to the research, 70 percent of 13 to 18 years olds with conditions ranging from ADHD and depression to anxiety, eating disorders and a range of autistic disorders admitted to suffering from chronic pain.
The research found that girls reported having pain more often than boys irrespective of their mental health diagnosis.
Professor Marit Sabo said that the numbers are so high that the entire support system for children and adolescents needs to be made more aware of the link between physical pain and psychiatric disorders.
