Link between Epsilon4 allele heterozygotes and Alzheimer’s disease

Researchers have found that persons with apolipoprotein E epsilon4 allelle heterozygote have a reduced brain activity which may increase the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

Professor Mehul Trivedi and his colleagues from University of Wisconsin Medical School and William S. Middleton Memorial VA Hospital have reported that individuals with apolipoprotein E epsilon4 allele has been linked // to a reduced brain activity in the hippocampal region in these persons and pose a great risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers studied the inherited linkage between apolipoprotein E epsilon4 alleles heterozygote by detecting the brain activity by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and found reduced brain activity in Medical temporal lobe and these persons have an increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
