Many households in the United Kingdom have lone inhabitants, which means there is a prevailing trend of many people living in seclusion. This is surely an unhealthy trend, say Danish researchers, whose study has revealed that living alone almost doubles the risk of heart disease.

The living alone and ill health link was discovered after a study of 138,000 adults in the 30-69 age bracket. Their lives were studied in detail along with their health charts, and assessments were made considering other risk factors to health - low income, poor qualifications and disappointments in professional life. The findings revealed that the heart disease risk almost doubled with two major parameters, age and living by oneself without a companion. The study also showed that between 2000 and 2002, nearly 646 people portrayed these conditions.
