The reasons, according to a new study, why men visit prostitutes ranges from loneliness, to pure desire.

Psychologists from international advocacy groups interviewed 700 men in several countries to learn why they decided to pay for sex.

One of the men said, "Prostitution is like masturbating without having to use your hand."

"I feel sorry for these girls but this is what I want."

Another said, "Look, men pay for women because he can have whatever and whoever he wants. Lots of men go to prostitutes so they can do things to them that real women would not put up with.

To legalise prostitution, marijuana and non-violent crimes as a remedy to boost the economy are not US President Barack Obama's job strategy.

Twenty percent went to prostitutes because they were unsatisfied with their current relationship, while 15 percent said they went to prostitutes because there was no emotional connection or commitment.

Just 3 percent of the respondents said they went to prostitutes because of a sex addiction or because they were drunk.
