According to a new study done by Dr. Honglei Chen, of the National Institutes of Health Research it is found that long hours of sleep may result in Parkinson’s disease. The study was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology. It said that those who work in the rotating night shifts appear to have a lower risk of the disease.
This is because the author says that rotating night shifts disrupts circadian rhythms and may have a wide range of physiologic, psychological and social effects on shift workers. The researchers mainly collected data from the U.S. Nurses' Health Study. He also analyzed the effect of sleep on 84,794 female nurses to study the association. After accounting for differences in age and smoking status, the investigators conformed the results to be true. He said that nurses who slept for 6 hours per day were found to be at a lower risk that those whose slept for 9 hours or more.
