Investigations have shown that daily oral doses of Lorenzos oil can prevent the spread of a form of pediatric neurological disorder called X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD).
Researchers from Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore have reported that use of Lorenzos oil have prevented the spread of the disease X-ALD in boys aged 7 years and younger who were diagnosed with the disease. The children had the their daily doses of the oil, which is a composite mixture of olive oil and rapeseed oil, for over a period of seven years, after restricting their dietary fat intake.Adrenoleukodystrophy is an inherited neurological disorder that is relatively rare. In this disease, the brain loses its fatty covering called myelin sheath and the adrenal gland degenerates. This can lead to increasing neurological disability and ultimately to death.
There are no cures for the disease condition and treatment involves hormonal therapy and bone marrow transplants. These treatment options are effective only in cases where the brain degeneration is in the early stages and is often ineffective once the disease had set in.
Lorenzos oil was always related to improved condition of children who suffers from this disease. However this is the first time investigation was conducted following scientifically accepted research procedures to establish the association between the two.
