An ingredient of psychedelic mushrooms, also called magic mushrooms can effectively reduce the symptoms of obsessive compulsion disorder (OCD), according to a study by University of Arizona.

Magic mushrooms contain psychedelic substances like psilocybin, psilocin, or muscimol.

The first study on psilocybin (FDA-approved) was outlawed in 1970, according to AP reports.

The intent of the study covers the safety of administrating psilocybin, though its effect is still doubtful, according to the findings of lead researcher, Dr. Francisco A. Moreno.

Obsessive Compulsion disorder is an anxiety disorder, which can manifest various forms, which are characterized by a person being obsessive, under constant stress and in an attempt to neutralize the obsessions they acquire intrusive thoughts to do certain deeds as a compulsion or a ritual.

The latest edition of Journal of Clinical Psychiatry published the study which had a research made on nine patients and efficiently removed the symptoms for 4-24 hours. Some of the patients did not develop the symptoms for few days.

Moreno said, 'What we saw acutely was a drastic decrease in symptoms, the obsessions would really dissolve or reduce drastically for a period of time.' Presently, there is no other drug which shows such effects in a short term of its usage.
