Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Plans To Improve State’s Healthcare With Temple Funds
Maharashtra’s chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is eyeing the huge wealth that prominent temples in the state to strengthen the healthcare system.
For funds, Fadnavis is now looking at Mumbai's Siddhivinayak and Ahmednagar's Shirdi Sai Baba temple trusts. Estimated 2,000 medical teachers work on contract basis as no steps have been taken for their regularization. PWD's additional chief secretary Anand Kulkarni is in a piquant situation over postings and transfers of controversial engineers. Kulkarni's office was flooded with letters from senior cabinet members, elected representatives and prominent activists, requesting specific postings for some engineers. The transfers were sought on the grounds that either the mother or father of the engineer is unwell or his/her children are studying at schools or colleges in the area where the postings were demanded. A prominent social worker from Marathwada personally called on Kulkarni, requesting a particular post for an executive engineer. But a week later, the social worker called up Kulkarni again and asked him to ignore his earlier request and instead entertain a new one for another engineer but for the same assignment.

As head of the traffic branch of the Mumbai police, Bharambe has often dealt with crucial situations, but this was a first as he had to draft an action plan for transporting an organ, and that too at a short notice. Bharambe swung into action and drafted a team of 100 personnel. Since this case was unlike the usual visits by VVIPs, a different action plan was prepared.

On the 19 km road from Kalina to the Mulund hospital, traffic and local police personnel were deployed at strategic locations. Bharambe ensured that while there was no hurdle for the organ transportation, no citizen too was inconvenienced.
