Since 14 per cent of the countries inhabitants were affected, some measures have to be taken to reduce its prevalence, said Piot.Top officials of UN and Britain, met the president Bingu wa Mutharika and officials and leaders of various organizations and donor agencies regarding precautions to be taken against Aids.
Biswick Mwale, the executive director of the National Aids Commission, said nearly 50,000 people in Malawi received free anti-retroviral drugs, in the last year and now 170,000 Malawians were in need of free life-extending drugs.
Malawian authorities say they want to provide free ARVs to 80 000 by 2008.
Sapa-AFP reported that the Global Funds, the World Bank, Unites States and British governments have all organized and provided more than 600 million dollars to people in Malawi with Aids.
