A new study though finds tat pain during mammograms can be overcome by using lidocaine gel.The researchers from St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute in Boise, Idaho tested oral acetaminophen, oral ibuprofen, 4% lidocaine gel, combinations of gel and oral medications or nothing on women undergoing mammograms.
They found that gel was the best pain reliever, while the medicines conferred no obvious benefits. The details of the study are released online from the journal Radiology.
