A 24-year old woman developed a potentially fatal deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and was told that the condition was caused by her exercise regimen

She was told that she had DVT and was given blood clot-busting drugs for 36 hours and even underwent surgery where one of her ribs was removed in order to ease the pressure on her arteries.
While Danielle is stunned that the condition has been caused by exercising, her doctor, Professor Mo Baguneid from the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, Greater Manchester, said that the condition is known as “effort thrombosis”.
“We call it effort thrombosis because it is due to exercise. During exercise muscles become strained and swell, compressing the veins which can cause a blood clot. If the blood clot dislodges it can travel to the lungs and cause a pulmonary embolism which can kill”, he said.
