A Northern Territory youth worker is facing a charge of ‘indifference’ for not reporting the suspected sexual abuse of a child at the appropriate time.
In a first ever occurrence, a Northern Territory youth worker is facing a charge of ‘indifference’ for not reporting the suspected sexual abuse of a child at the appropriate time. According to reports from the police, the woman in question had allegedly witnessed the sexual abuse of a five-year-old child twice in October and December.
The youth worker had brought this incident to the management’s notice only after the second incident.
The Territory's Care and Protection of Children Act stipulates that youth workers must report such incidents of child abuse immediately.
The youth worker has been summoned to appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court in the following week.
