Manufacturer of birth control patch runs into rough ‘patches’

Several law suits were filed by forty women who encountered medical complications following the use of an accepted birth-control patch.

Several law suits were filed at the San Francisco Superior Court by forty women who encountered medical complications following the use of an accepted birth-control patch.

The manufacturer, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical Co., and distributor, McKesson Corp have been sued following the death of one 25 year old woman 2 years ago and several others having reported development of blood clots in lungs and legs following the use of a contraceptive patch on their skin .Ortho Evra the birth control patch which supplies hormones to the blood stream through the skin was approved by the Food and Drug Administration 5 years ago. In a previous study conducted last year it was established that women who use birth control patches stand twice as much more chances of developing blood clots than those women who use pills ,as a side effect.

The counsel for the defendants has declined from making any comments.
