McDonald’s Burger Showed No Signs of Decomposition After a Year
A southern Ontario nutritionist conducted an experiment by buying a plain cheese burger from McDonald’s and found that there were no signs of decomposition in the burger even though she kept it unwrapped and unrefrigerated for more than a year.
Melanie Hesketh, who is a nutritionist at the Lifetime Wellness Center in Windsor, Ontario, said that she had purchased the burger without any ketchup or mustard on December 29, 2010. She kept the burger on her counter after unwrapping it and more than a year later, she found that apart from the burger bun going stale, there was no other sign of decomposition.

Hesketh said that it still smelled slightly like a burger and questioned the wisdom of eating something that even bacteria and maggots don’t eat. “Obviously it makes me wonder why we choose to eat food like this when even bacteria won’t eat it”, she said.
