Speaking at the announcement, Victorian Health Services Commissioner Beth Wilson said that nowadays, shopping in supermarkets resembled a war zone. "There is a deluge of propaganda out there," she admitted. "Advertisers understand very, very, well the psychology of children and they really cash in on it."The awards were voted by more than 200 members of the Parents Jury.
The animated Happy Meal TV ads won the "Pester Power" award, while McDonald's sponsorship of a high school maths website earned it the dubious distinction of being the most irresponsible creator of food promotions.
Kellogg's Nutri-Grain ads won the 'Smoke and Mirrors' category.
