In the U.S. the state governments are finding themselves in a tight corner with finances being scarce. This has led to the state government to seek for further Medicaid cuts. The physician across the country feel that these cuts would result in dire consequences for patient care. To add to the woes the Texas House of Representatives has cut off $3 billion from the Medicaid program, and this also includes evicting half a million Texans and decreasing the payment rates of physicians and other providers by 5%.

The mental health services receive around half of the public money in USA. The provider for this is usually Medicaid. There has been a perpetual fluctuation in the reimbursement cycle and it is also reported that there have been unnecessarily long delays in the payments made to physicians. The state of Massachusetts has gone in for a huge and extensive termination of its services to people and this means they won't be eligible for Medicaid rolls. Even more, benefits on prescription drugs have also been cut . Further cuts are planned in the near future. Physicians find themselves in a dire predicament as to whether they should go about treating the patients not covered by Medicaid, not treating also indirectly affects their practice and reputation..The Bush administration has opposed any additional funds not tied to comprehensive reforms.
