Medicare Data would help in Drug Validation

Sharing of Drug data from Medicare would help in validation of drug even after post marketing clinical trials.

Effect of drug on treatment can be validated from Medicare data as Medicare covers more than 40 million people and the real benefit of the drug can be known from these data reports Professor Richard Platt, Professor, Harvard Medical School.

Medicare data would be very useful for knowing the true benefits of the drug and the risk and side effects of taking the drug and the data obtained from Medicare would be far better than the data obtained from clinical trial. The side effects and actual benefits of the drugs are not known, as there is no clinical trial of the drug is taken after post marketing of the drug, the adverse action of the drug is only known when millions of people are exposed of the drug and suffers of the drug reactions. Researchers feel that if data from Medicare is shared with FDA, CDC or other drug monitoring association it will help in the life long validation of the drug. The researchers have published this editorial article in New England Journal of Medicine.
