The skeletal Somali baby , the poster boy representing hunger and famine in Africa has surprised people by surviving the odds; after weeks of intensive feeding, he has gained weight and is now a chubby boy. When Minhaj was seven-months-old he was admitted to the International Rescue Committee’s hospital in the Dadaab refugee complex. His face was shown in the media throughout the world to depict the situation of thousands of refugee children abandoning famine-devastated Somalia.
He weighed just 3.1 kilograms and was suffering from anemia. Nobody believed this malnourished child would actually survive.
Minhaj’s mother is ecstatic and cannot believe her eyes. She had given up hope about her son’s survival. She is extremely grateful to the hospital and the treatment which helped her child make a remarkable recovery.
