A Slovenian government official has said that the government could soon prepare a law to legalise same-sex marriage and in certain cases the adoption of children by homosexual couples.
The government had agreed that it had to grant same-sex couples the same rights as heterosexual couples enjoyed, or as near as possible, Interior Minister Katarina Kresal told journalists. That would "definitely mean marriage and adoptions" where the biological parent had no objection, she added.
Slovenia, a former Yugoslav state that joined the European Union in 2004, legalized same-sex registered partnerships in 2006, giving such partners normal pensions and inheritance rights
