South India's Madras Institute of Trauma, more familiarly known as MIOT hospital, has signed an agreement with a public healthcare system of a city in Germany, aimed at sharing resources in the paramedical, medical, and hospital administration fields.

MIOT signed a memorandum of understanding with Stuttgart Mayor Wolfgang Schuster on 28 January 2006. Stuttgart's public healthcare system is entering into such a partnership with a private healthcare organization for the first time. MIOT patients who cannot be treated here will get attention at Klinikum Stuttgart and Katherinen Hospital, the government hospital network in Stuttgart.

MIOT Director P.V.A. Mohandas said the two institutions would also collaborate on research work. Klinikum Stuttgart will provide advanced medical technologies and MIOT will provide healthcare training for medical and paramedical personnel. The framework of the collaboration is subject to review periodically.
