Eloysa Vasquez, confined to a wheel chair because of Type 3 osteogenesis imperfecta , a disorder that has rendered her bones soft and brittle . She has had two miscarriages as well.During the pregnancy, Vasquez gained 20 pounds . Her baby had a birth weight of three pound, seven ounce and was born on Jan. 24 at Stanford University's Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.
"We just took one day at a time. We had a lot of people praying for us. We just believed . . . and here we have our son," Vasquez, 38, told The Fresno Bee.
Timothy , the baby was delivered by caesarean section, eight weeks early as a precaution to the mother’s weak health. Fortunately,Timothy has not inherited the mother’s genetic disorder.
It is very rare phenomenon , about one in 25,000 to 50,000 births from a mother with Type 3 osteogenesis imperfecta, and therefore very much a miracle baby.
