Consuming alcohol on a moderate basis could slow down the progression of rheumatoid arthritis, a new study reveals.

More than 2,900 patients of rheumatoid arthritis were observed by researchers from University Hospital of Geneva who found that light to moderate drinking had slower progression of the disease in the joints compared to non drinkers.

Lead researcher Dr. Axel Finckh admitted that while the difference is not easily noticeable, it could prove to be vital for arthritis patients if the progression continued to slow down over a long period of time.

Dr Finckh added that the study once again proved the connection between moderate drinking and low risk of rheumatoid arthritis though he said that further studies were required to confirm the findings.
