Morgellons Disease is Not Caused by Infectious Agent, Says CDC Study
A recent study conducted by researchers from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States has found that Morgellons disease is not caused by any infectious agent.
The study, published in the journal PLoS One, seems to back the findings of Mayo Clinic researchers who said that instead of treating it as an infectious disease, Morgellons can be better described as a psychological disorder known as “delusional parasitosis.”

The CDC study was started back in 2008 with the researchers observing patients who were treated for Morgellons symptoms by Kaiser Permanente Northern California between 2006 and 2008.

On conducting psychiatric evaluations on the patients, the researchers found that 59 percent had cognitive deficits of some sort while 63 percent had clinically significant somatic complaints.
