A survey carried out by British Heart Foundation (BHF) has found that British men believe that they are slimmer in the waist region than they actually are and majority of them are unable to correctly measure their waist. The survey was carried out among a 1,000 men and on an average, British men believed that they measured around 35.8 inches, compared to English and Scottish average of 37.9 and 38 inches respectively.
More than 90 percent of those who were surveyed admitted that they did not know the correct way of measuring their waist with nearly 47 percent of the men believing that the waist measurement should be taken just above the hips, which would incorrectly give a slimmer measurement.
Stating that the results of the survey are worrying, BHF’s Tracy Parker said that the incorrect measurement could lead obese men to take their fitness lightly. “The results of this survey are worrying. They suggest men might not know they are in the danger zone. Taking action doesn't have to be a chore. If your waist strays above the 37 inch mark, arrange some healthy activities around your day for maximum efficiency and minimum fuss”, Parker said.
