Mother's Dieting Affects Daughter's Eating Habits

A new survey has found that daughters of mother who are on crash diets are more likely to suffer from eating disorders. The survey involved 512 teenage girls, with an average age of 14.

It found that 6% of the girls had some type of eating disorder and that this number rose to one in ten among girls whose mothers were on diets.

"Every single issue of Sugar magazine features fashion modelled by 'regular' girls, with different body sizes and shapes, to prove all bodies are gorgeous when they're well fed and exercised," said Annabel Brog, the editor of teen magazine Sugar. "But it stands to reason that a girl's 'thinheritance' - the attitude to food and body-shape she is exposed to day-after-day in her home - is going to be more powerful than anything we can print in a magazine." The survey involved the readers of the magazine.

The survey also found that 78% of the girls worried about their weight, while 51% had dieted at some point of time.
