Mothers Who Opt for C-Sections Need to be Counseled to Eradicate Fear of Labour Pain
Britain’s premier health watchdog, National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) has recommended that mothers who ask for caesarian birth instead of natural birth should be sent to counseling regarding their fears of labor before it is granted.
According to latest figures released by NICE, the number of caesarian births has nearly doubled in the last two decades, up from 13 percent in 1992 to 23 percent in 2009.

With caesarian birth costing an additional £800 to the NHS, NICE suggests that those who have no medical reason for caesarian sections should be counseled before the request is granted.

NICE said that the NHS could save in excess of £5 million for every one percent decline in caesarian section operations. “Recent evidence shows that a caesarean section is not necessarily the best course of action in some cases”, NICE’s Christine Carson said.
