Around 500 people of different age groups and from different walks of life celebrated World Laughter Day in Mumbai on Sunday.
This event hosted by Priyadarshini Laughter Club was one among the scores of such functions organised in the city to mark the memorable day.Priyadarshini Laughter Club was set up in 1995 and conducts laughter sessions daily. The participants forgot their daily worries and indulged in various activities including Laughter Yoga, also known as the Laughing Buddha.
"Laughter is very important in our lives. Nowadays, 95 percent of the diseases are psychosomatic illnesses. Psychosomatic illness means sickness caused due to mental and emotional causes. If you think about something again and again you will develop stress and tension resulting in depression," said Kishore H Kuvavala, President and Founder of Priyadarshini Laughter Club.
"And all this leads to blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, spondylitis, slip-disk, insomnia, Parkinson, AIDS and cancer. So, stress is the reason for all the diseases," he added.
World Laughter Day falls on the first Sunday of May every year. This day reminds the society that laughter is the best medicine to ward off dangers of modern day monotonous and mechanised lifestyles.
