NACO Inaugurates 37 Additional HIV Treatment Centers

New Delhi: The National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) has instituted 37 more, in addition to the existing 54, to provide free anti-retroviral treatment (ART).

New Delhi: The National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) has instituted 37 centers, in addition to the existing 54, to provide free anti-retroviral treatment (ART). The count of NACO centers stand at 91, with 9 more centers on the anvil.

These centers will support the treatment of nearly 85,000 patients, who will avail the services of exclusive doctors, counselors and laboratory technicians to assist in ART and ensure that the guidelines are followed.

Anti-retroviral treatment is a powerful mixture of three drugs administered to patients suffering chronic or advanced stages of AIDS. These drugs cannot cure the infection, nevertheless are powerful enough to check the proliferation of the virus. The therapy also helps in cutting down the number of opportunistic infections that will positively enhance the quality of life as well as extend the life of the patient.
