At least five cases of dengue have been reported from Nanital district of Uttarakhand on Tuesday.
Dengue fever that is transmitted by the bite of an Aedes mosquito is on trail in the Lalkuan region of Nainital.People are unable to receive proper treatment for their children and blame the hospital authorities for not taking the matter seriously.
"When we came to Haldwani Hospital, they asked us to take our children to Bareilly. Now those who have money would be able to get the treatment done in Bareilly and what will happen to others? The children will have to die," said Nand Lal, father of a patient.
However, the local authorities contend that spreading awareness is more necessary at present, since prevention is the first step of an epidemic's cure.
"We have sent total seven cases for testifying. Out of which five are being suspected of dengue and two of viral. The strategy which is necessary now is to spread mass awareness and undertake prevention measures," said Dr. B S Bagoli, Medical Officer, Lalkuan Hospital.
Meanwhile, the hospital authorities in Lalkuan have sent the blood samples of the patients to New Delhi for detailed pathological analysis.
