Dutch researchers have expressed that contrary to popular belief, narcissists do not make good leaders. We often mistake their confidence, self-esteem and dominating attitude as the hallmark of leadership. While such traits can be good in crisis situations, when we need somebody strong to take control, the study showed that narcissists are often preoccupied with their own intelligence and this limits the one most important trait – that of effective team communication. This can hamper group decision-making and free echange of ideas.
In a work environment, people who are so self-absorbed fail to be receptive to others' ideas, a traint which can be detrimental to effective leadership.
