NCC To Sign Mou With UN For AIDS Awareness Programme

Awareness needed to be created among the HIV infected that there were medicines for their treatment and people must be told that HIV patients should not be ostracised, he told reporters here.

Another MoU on controlling the spread of drug addiction would also be signed, he added.

Besides, an agreement would be signed with the Forest Department for afforestation programme in Chattisgarh, Bhandari said. The total number of cadets in the country was 13 lakh and two lakh cadets would be enrolled soon.

In Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Andaman Nicobar the total number of cadets was 1,05,009 in which 81,907 were boys. The number of girls was only about 20 per cent. While girls in cities were coming forward to join NCC, in rural areas only a few were joining it, Bandari said.

He said that NCC units were functioning in 751 schools and another 263 schools and colleges were in the waiting list for starting NCC units. The budget allocation for NCC operations this year is Rs 402 crore.

NCC has obtained a new aircraft Super Demona for training and 54 expeditions to the Himalayas have been carried out from 1970. The NCC would obtain land for constructing NCC cities, to facilitate the location of all facilities, including selection board, playground and office buildings in one place, he added.
