A new age sweetener called ‘Cutkal’ that is aimed for the diabetics, obese and the calorie conscious people has been launched by An India Pharma - USV Ltd. Cutkal has a combination of Aspartame and Acesulfame-K and the sweetener is the same that is used in diet colas around the world.
The US FDA approved Aspartame in 1981 and is used in 6,000 products like beverages, chewing gums, frozen desserts, etc. and its safety is supported by almost 200 studies. Acesulfame-K too has US FDA approval since 1988 and is a flavor enhancer and its safety is supported by almost 90 studies. It is used in candies, breath mint, baked products, etc. Sweeteners such as saccharin, sucralose, and cyclamates leave a bitter taste after intake and only have one component.Cutkal is the first sweetener to be available in India with an Aspartame and Acesulfame-K combination and it leaves no bitter taste afterwards.
“With Cutkal, we aim to broaden our product offering to the Indian diabetic population. Cutkal will further reinforce our position as the complete solution provider for diabetic management in India,” said Mr Prashant Tewari, Managing Director of USV Ltd. The advantages of having a combination is the synergistic action that results from it. Acesulfame-K gives the rapid sweet taste whereas aspartame dissolves slowly and gives the lasting sweet taste.
The other advantages this new age sweetener offers to the patients are as follows:-
The pellets are apparently stable with heat and this should work in India where temperatures soar in summer. - It is available in a convenient pen dispenser
- making it easy to use and carry in the pocket.
- It need not be stirred as the pellets have an effervescent property
