US researchers have developed a general anesthesia that reduces pain without loss of body sensation and consciousness, according to a study published in Nature Journal.
According to the report, scientists from the General Hospital of Massachusetts injected in rodents a combination of two drugs - lidocain and capsaicin - in an area near the sciatic nerves. The animals did not feel pain, and kept moving naturally without losing body sensation. The sedation effect lasted two hours.
Even though studies are not concluded yet, experts are convinced that anesthetic preparation may be effective in some pre-operative surgeries and natural births.
